Samsung: Galaxy Sand Concept

The Samsung Mobile Design Competition is a collaboration between Dezeen and Samsung that challenges designers to create new wallpaper designs for Galaxy devices with screens, with innovative features such as interactivity and contextual awareness

This concept incorporates touch. It’s a simulation of “what could we design to positively interact with us when touching our devices with high-resolution, screen-embedded haptics?”

Could we use this technology to calm ourselves - making little sand gardens anywhere we went - or to send messages,create art or vent frustration? To shake up or to cultivate.

Customize Your Sandbox

Any image can be used to colour the sand. Inspired by Tibetan Mandalas, the wallpaper is constantly changing, so users are able to record and share artwork of their own before it’s swept away by time. This practice encourages working while in flow state, and taking advantage of some valuable time to create in the moment.

Interactive Time

Time is slowly revealed throughout the day, gently sweeping a path through sand.

Create reminders or alerts, or time yourself by placing obstacles (like your finger).
